We are born with a finite number of breaths therefore each one needs to be used with wisdom and calm.
Many of us are under pressure in some form and unless we learn how to take a breath and calm things down then we end up with frayed nerves or worse.
Relax and don’t overdo it.
Easier said than done, we plan for ages, have the best intentions, butgive ourselves unobtainable goals to impress the neighbours/friends who rarely see or don’t even like , juggle shopping, kids, jobs, and life ,who has time to relax?
Find time.
I have been brought up with the principles of Yoga to try to find compassion, love and kindness in all but trust me even Yoga Teachers can get stressed.
What can I do to relax?
Do what you enjoy! Take a warm bath with lavender oil, listen to music and dance, read a book, but better than all of that sit and do nothing. We need to lean to find stillness and that way we can move towards realising that things are not as bad as they may seem and we can learn to accept and enjoy what we have.
If you are finding it hard to ‘switch off’ at night try the following:
Bhamari Pranayama (Humming Bee Breath)
1.Stop working, switch off the TV, put the book down
2.Write down everything that is worrying you.. Put the list in another room or throw it away – a great exercise to de-clutter the mind.
3.Sit comfortably.
4.Place your hands on your chest, or put your fingers in your ears.
5.Bring the lips together and on exhale hum or make buzzing sound of a bee.
6.Start with 6-12 breaths.
7.Stop if you feel dizzy or uncomfortable.
Surya Bhedana Pranayama – Vitality Stimulating Breath
